Q: Are there any plans to change the structure of searching with index tags to require additional syntax? In other words, searches with common words like "is" or "an" retrieve no results--unless they're in quotes--because those are index tags. However, it seems counterintuitive to require basic users to use special search syntax in order for their search to work. (submitted 8/18/2010)

Q: Can the default text inside the search box ("Enter any words to...") be customized? Also, it doesn't disappear when the cursor enters the field, only when the user starts typing. Can that behavior be changed? (submitted 8/9/2010)

Q: The phrase "Options set" appears under the "Show more >>" link in the Refine Results cluster when refinements have been chosen. Can this wording be customizable (including the ability to remove it all together)? The phrase isn't very clear, and because the set options appear in the bread box, it's redundant. Q: On a Detailed Record, is there any way to suppress the "Find Similar Results using SmartText searching" section in the left margin? We'd like to stay away from SmartText for now. (submitted 8/9/2010)

Q: Can there be a visual indication that a limit is being applied once it's submitted? In other words, once the Update button is clicked on a limiter, the only indication that something is happening is that--depending on your browser--there is a 'spinner' graphic in the browser's title bar or tab. It would be nice if an "Updating results..." graphic appeared center screen while results are updating, similar to the "Loading..." graphic that appears when the Preferences window is loading. Q: Can custom widgets (e.g. Meebo) be included on pages other than search results? It would be useful, for example, to include on the Folders and Detailed Record pages. (not yet submitted)

Problem:
When Refinements (Full Text, Catalog Only, etc.) are removed from the Bread Box, the search results list does not change accordingly.
Resolution:
8/10/2010 - According to Diane Moodie, this is a known issue that is being worked on. She will notify us when it is resolved. Case #549763.

Problem:
Custom search boxes can only be created at the group level, not for individual profiles. This makes administration more tedious and clusters up our admin interface with unnecessary groups.

8/10/2010 - Known issue. Ebsco is working on a fix and predicts that one will be available ~mid-September.

Problem:
Limiting by Date behaves differently depending on whether it is applied from the cluster (date slider) or the Refine/Search Options window. The former doesn't "stick" when a new search is performed, while the latter does. (submitted 8/18/2010)

8/19/2010 - Per Diane Moodie: although this was the way the date slider was designed, Ebsco is developing an enhancement that will change the date slider into a true limiter.

Problem:
In EbscoAdmin, we don't have Language as a limiter, but we subscribe to a number of databases to which it applies. Can we have Language added to our list of limiters? (submitted 8/18/2010)

Problem:
When only 1 result is found (or when the search results list is sufficiently short), the display gets a little funky in the margins. (see external image moz-screenshot.pnghttp://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=bth&site=eds-live&bquery=TI+Shrinking+Merger+Arbitrage+Spread). It seems to be caused by the CSS styles being applied to the custom footer section. (submitted 8/18/2010)

Problem:
Several connectors (African American Studies Center, LexisNexis and the Oxford databases) consistently fail to establish a connection and appear with the yellow alert icon next to them. (submitted 8/20/2010)
Resolution:
Resolved 9/1/10 - LexisNexis is resolved, and the others are due to our concurrent use licenses with the vendors. Searching in SuperSearch uses up a license seat, so these databases are often unavailable because our limit is being reached.

Problem:
When a databases is selected in the Integrated Search panel (right-hand list), some of the databases and their checkboxes are cascading, almost like they're nested lists. (submitted 8/20/2010)

Problem:
If all Integrated Search connector checkboxes on a results list are cleared (could happen by mistake), the semi-opaque overlay stays on top of the interface and prevents the user from further interaction with the site. (reported 8/31/2010, case #561092)

Request:
In the list of search results, can the links for e-books take users right to the e-book instead of the catalog, and can eScholarShare records include a link to the full text?

Q: If you pull up a Detailed Record using a Permalink, you get the detailed record, but no way to conduct a search from there. (i.e., the toolbar and search box are not there). Is this by design? (submitted 8/18/2010)
A: This is a setting in eAdmin: under the Linking tab, set "Include scope information on persistent links" to "on". (resolved by Diane Moodie, 8/19/2010)

Q: Why aren't linked fields (Author, Subject, etc.) hyperlinked in Permalink records, like they are in Detailed Records? (submitted 8/18/2010)
